Valorization of olive leaves through the recovery of their polyphenol content

Esperance Debs Oman 2019Prof. Espérance Debs from the University of Balamand, Lebanon will give a talk about “Valorization of olive leaves through the recovery of their polyphenol content” during I4th ISANH Middle East Redox & Microbiota 2019 World Congress which will be held on March 4-5, 2019 in Muscat, Oman.

Short summary of talk: "Olives are one of the most produced crops worldwide. According to the FAOSTAT, Lebanon produced almost 117,000 tons in 2014, which classifies it as the 11th place in the world. Olive fruits are directly consumed or crushed to extract their oil. During harvesting, olive leaves represent up to 25 % of the total weight of olives (depending on the harvesting practice). They are generally disposed as waste with no further specific use in spite of their richness in polyphenols. The aim of the project is to optimize the extraction of total phenolic compounds from olive leaves using a new technology based on infrared irradiation."
