Sultanate of Oman
Official website of Tourism

Oman is the third largest nation on the Arabian Peninsula. It is situated on the eastern edge of Arabia. Oman is easily accessible, being only a seven hour flight from continental Europe and Asia, two hours from India and less than an hour’s flight from Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

Capital city Muscat is the beating heart of Oman, known for its diverse landscapes, long beaches, and stunning mountain roads.

Muscat is a breathtaking combination of ancient cultural heritage and modern style. Houses, gates, old markets, small shops and winding roads redolent of history, sit side by side with modern markets, shops, buildings and streets punctuated with modern architecture. Oman has preserved its historic character, while at the same time offering a contemporary spirit on a human scale.

Like much of the region, Oman is blessed with year-round sunshine. With summer temperatures in Muscat and northern Oman averaging 30 °C to 40 °C, Oman receives little rainfall, with annual rainfall in Muscat averaging 100 mm (3.9 in). The cooler months, November to April, are the most pleasant time to visit, when temperatures are around 24 °C during the day and 16 °C at night.

Getting around

Muscat International Airport is approximately 14 km from central parts of Muscat, straddling the coast and mountains. Taxis are readily available and all use regulated meters.

Although the national language of Oman is Arabic, English is widely spoken. Tourists will have no difficulty in communicating with the Omani people.

IRU World Congress plenary sessions will be held in English and translated simultaneously into Arabic, Russian and Mandarin. Roundtable sessions will be translated into Arabic and Russian. Other languages may be added depending on delegate registrations.

The official currency of Oman is the Omani Riyal (OMR). The Omani Riyal is fixed to the dollar with 1USD = 0.39OMR. Credit cards are widely accepted and most banks are open Sunday to Thursday and ATM machines are available.
